After your SMP treatment, your scalp may feel sensitive and irritated. This is completely normal, and it’s important to take proper care of your scalp to ensure optimal healing and long-lasting results. Follow these tips so you can enjoy a natural-looking hairline for years to come.
Don’t wash your scalp for the first 3 days.
While it’s important to keep your scalp clean, you should avoid washing your head and applying water to your scalp after getting a scalp micropigmentation procedure because it’s still sensitive.
Sweating can also hinder the healing process, so it’s recommended to avoid physical activities that cause excessive sweating for at least five days. Sweating can irritate the scalp and may cause the pigments to fade or blur. If you need to exercise, do so in a cool, dry environment.
Protect your head from the sun.
Sun exposure can also cause the pigments to fade so it’s important to protect your scalp from the sun for up to 30 days. Wearing a loose-fitting hat can help protect your scalp from the sun’s harmful rays. Additionally, it’s best to avoid swimming in bodies of water for up to 30 days after the procedure because saltwater or chlorine can damage the results.
Wash your head on day 4.
Give your scalp a good wash on the fourth day. Use a mild shampoo to wash your scalp gently, avoiding any harsh rubbing or scrubbing. Rinse thoroughly and pat your scalp dry with a clean towel.
You can go swimming on day 30.
We know that summer is just around the corner, but you have to wait a month from your last micropigmentation session before you can resume your regular activities without any issues. This means you can swim in a pool, enjoy a sunny day outside, and generally do anything you want unless you have an upcoming micropigmentation session planned.
It’s also important to protect your scalp from the sun’s harmful UV rays by using non-greasy sunscreen and wearing a light-colored hat on very hot days. Some men also find comfort in using moisturizing cream on their heads.
Follow your technician’s instructions.
Your SMP technician will provide you with specific aftercare instructions based on your individual needs. Additionally, avoid touching or scratching your scalp after SMP. It’s important to let the area heal on its own without any interference. If you must touch your scalp, be sure to wash your hands thoroughly first.
