Patient Case Study - Overview
Recently retired and newly divorced, this client came to Ahead Ink ready for a change. He wasn’t looking for a dramatic transformation or a hairline that made him look unnaturally young. He simply wanted to improve his appearance, frame his face, and feel better about the way he looked.
This was a case where subtlety was extremely important.
The client had very light, sun-damaged skin across his scalp, combined with fine, light grey hair that was diffusely distributed along the sides and back. With this combination, an SMP treatment that was too dark, dense, or aggressive could easily appear unnatural.
Procedure Details
Rather than creating a sharp or overly defined hairline, we designed a soft, rounded, age-appropriate hairline with natural recession.
The goal was to create a hairline that looked as though it belonged to him—not one that looked newly added.
Because of his light complexion and grey hair, we took a conservative approach to pigment selection and density. The impressions needed to blend naturally with his existing follicles while remaining soft enough to complement his skin tone.
Building the treatment gradually allowed us to maintain the subtle contrast necessary to recreate the appearance of naturally shaved hair without overpowering his existing grey hair.
Scalp Micropigmentation isn’t about giving every client the darkest or most defined hairline possible. A successful treatment should take into consideration age, skin tone, existing hair color, facial structure, and lifestyle. For this client, restraint was the key.

The Results
The finished treatment gave him a natural frame around his face and a clean, closely shaved appearance while still looking appropriate for his age and complexion. He didn’t want to look like a different person. He simply wanted to look like a better version of himself as he started the next chapter of his life.
