Patient Case Study - Overview
This client came to us wanting to restore the appearance of his barber shop edge-up hairline. He liked the clean, fresh look of a professionally lined-up hairline but didn’t want the finished SMP result to look overly sharp, straight, or artificial.
His goal was simple: fresh from the barber’s chair, without looking like the hairline had been drawn on with a Sharpie.
The key to this treatment was finding the balance between definition and softness.
We designed an age-appropriate hairline that gave him the crisp appearance he was accustomed to while incorporating subtle irregularities and softer transitions along the edge. Instead of creating a perfectly straight, razor-sharp line, we allowed the hairline to have a more natural flow.
Procedure Details
The result was a hairline that looked clean and intentional from a normal viewing distance, while the softened edges helped maintain the appearance of real hair follicles.
During the procedure, we carefully built the density behind the hairline and refined the frontal edge to create the right combination of definition and diffusion.
The objective wasn’t to eliminate every imperfection—it was to recreate the visual effect of a great barbered hairline while retaining the characteristics of a natural scalp.

The Results
The finished treatment gave the client the fresh, well-groomed appearance of an edge-up without the overly sharp or geometric look he wanted to avoid. The softer edges allowed the hairline to blend naturally into the scalp, while the overall design remained clean, youthful, and age appropriate.
